About Window Expander
Window Expander is a free utility for maximizing your windows to take up most but not all of the screen.
Hi, I'm Evan, developer of Window Expander. I found that keeping my windows fully maximized feels a bit depressing. My mood feels brighter when I can see some of my desktop's wallpaper around the windows. Yeah, I know it doesn't make much sense, but we have to work with the brains we have and recognize we're not robots. Anyway, when working on my other product, Modern CSV, I frequently go back and forth between using my laptop's monitor and external monitors. I may also have as many as 6 virtual machines running at a time. This means I have to do a lot of manual window resizing and it's time consuming. I finally decided to slap together some scripts to perform the process automatically. I liked it so much that I decided to put it out there for free.
Documentation
Window Expander runs in your utility tray. If you select the Settings option, you'll get a window like this:
Margins (pixels)
This is where you set the size of the margins on each side.
If there is a dock, menu bar, or task bar, the margin starts at its edge.
Minimum Size
This determines the minimum size a window must be relative to its screen to be maximized.
Resizing
When you click the Resize button in the Settings window or select the Resize Windows option in the tray menu, it will resize every window that meets the minimum size settings and is not currently minimized or maximized.

Why does the Mac version take a few seconds to do the resizing and the Windows version is almost instantaneous?
For technical reasons, I had to put in a delay between each window resize on Mac. That wasn't necessary on Windows.

Yes! Modern CSV. It's a tabular file editor with advanced editing features and large file handling. It makes up for the weaknesses of spreadsheet programs in handling CSV files while incorporating the strengths of the best text editors.
